This translation is made in memory of Stanislav Semyonov, an amigurumi designer who died at the age of only 35, but left behind many crochet and knitting patterns. Rest In Peace.

Head

(light yellow thread, hook number 1.25)

  • 1: 6 sc in MR
  • 2: inc*6 (12)
  • 3: (sc, inc)*6 (18)
  • 4: (2 sc, inc)*6 (24)
  • 5: (3 sc, inc)*6 (30)
  • 6: (4 sc, inc)*6 (36)
  • 7: 36 sc
  • 8: (5 sc, inc)*6 (42)
  • 9: (6 sc, inc)*6 (48)
  • 10-17: 48 sc. (8 rds) In the last row, crochet 1sc offset. (see here what it is)
  • 18: 6 sc, FLO: ( inc)*12, 12 sc, FLO: (inc)*12, 6 sc (72)
  • 19-27: 72 sc. (9 rds)  In the last row crochet 2sc offset.
  • 28: 16 sc, (dec, 4 sc)*2, 6 sc, inc*4, 6 sc, (4 sc, dec)*2, 16 sc
  • 29: 8 sc, dec, 9 sc, (dec, 3 sc) *2, dec, 10 sc, dec, (3 sc, dec)*2, 9 sc, dec, 8 sc (64)

Start to stuff the head.

  • 36: (5 sc, dec)*6 (36)
  • 37: (4 sc, dec)*6 (30)
  • 38: (3 sc, dec)*6 (24)
  • 39: (2 sc, dec)*6 (18)
  • 40: (sc, dec)*6 (12)
  • 41: 12 sc. FO. Now, you can insert a hard wire in order to move the head. Adjust the filler. Try to highlight the cheeks and chin.

Leave a tail for sewing. Stuff not tightly. Sew the nose to the center of the head. Mark with pins the corner of the chin, exactly where you crocheted 4inc, at round no. 28, we insert the following pins at 3sc below with a row, outwards (photo). Now we make a tightening the marked points, clogging a little to form the corners of the mouth.

(light yellow thread, hook number 1.25)

  • 1: 2ch and in the second ch from hook: 4sc, 1ch, turn
  • 2: inc*4 , 1ch, turn (8)
  • 3: (sc, inc)*4 (12). Continue and crochet 5sc on the rows.

Leave a tail for sewing and then sew the ears on the head. (see photo above)

I made the eyes from coarse calico fabric. I drew a template with a simple pencil, then painted over the iris, the pupil with acrylic paints and white for the eye light. You can use any eyes model (photo below).

I also embroidered wrinkles and I did slightly the makeup with dry pastel.

I made the mouth like this: 13ch, and crochet 12 slst from the 2nd ch. I fastened the thread and sewed it on the face.

Cap (crochet) – Eliana Lorenzut

(blue, hook n° 1.25)

  • 1: 10 sc in MR
  • 2: 10 inc (20)
  • 3: 20 sc

From the next round the chain does not count as a stitch (it serves to create the pattern). On the following rounds do not work in the chain, but skip it and work only in the stitches below. Make sure that the chain, in the various rows, is in line with the one below.

  • 4: (1 sc, inc, 1 ch) x 10 (30)
  • 5: (3 sc, 1 ch) x 10 (30)
  • 6: (2 sc, inc, 1 ch) x 10 (40)
  • 7: (4 sc, 1 ch) x 10 (40)
  • 8: (3 sc, inc, 1 ch) x 10 (50)
  • 9: (5 sc, 1 ch) x 10 (50)
  • 10: (4 sc, inc, 1 ch) x 10 (60)

On the next round also work the chain with double crochet (dc).

  • 11: (FLO: 1 dc), (BLO: 1 dc) repeat the sequence until the end of the round (70)
  • 12-17: (FLO: 1 dc), (BLO: 1 dc) repeat the sequence until the end of the round (70) (6 rds)
  • 18: (5 sc, dec) x 10 (60)

You can continue by changing the yarn (fur yarn) or by changing in white color and creating the fur at the end, but working inside out. To do this you work the first round by turning the piece and then working the round on the opposite side. The other rounds are normally worked in the round.

Border with white fur (chenille) yarn

  • 1-4: = 60 sc
  • 5: (5 sc, skip 1st) x 10 (50)
  • 6: (4 slst, skip 1 st) x 10 (40)

Close. Sew the edge between rounds 14 and 15 of the hat.

Border with white acrylic yarn

  • 1: (5 sc, inc) x 10 (70)
  • 2: BLO: (6 sc, inc) x 10 (80)
  • 3-12: 80 sc (10 rds)
  • 13: BLO: (6 sc, dec) x 10 (70)

Close. Sew the edge between rounds 14 and 15 of the hat, after having slightly folded the edge to give a rounded shape. It is advisable to sew by taking the outer loop of the white edge. If you feel more comfortable, insert the threads to form the fur before sewing.

Note: The fur can be made by inserting threads through the crocheted fabric, just like when you do the hair on dolls and then cut the strands to the desired length.

Beard, eyebrows and mustache

With white color yarn cast on a chain of 60 ch. Cut threads 25 cm long and attach three threads to each loop of the chain. Then, with a needle dissolve these threads. Brush the hair with a cat brush and cut once you got the desired beard lenght.

The mustache and eyebrows are the same as the beard, only cast on a chain of 10 ch. Cut the threads 7 cm long. Using the same needle,  loose  each thread and then combe it with a cat brush.

Decorate and assembly

  1. Sew the head to the body after you put the wire inside of the head through the neck and body.
  2. Glue the painted eyes.
  3. Color the face of toy with dry pastel.
  4. Sew the beard, eyebrows and mustache on the face.
  5. Spray the entire face with hairspray to fix the beard, mustache, eyebrows and make-up well.
  6. Put the cap on the head.
  7. Make a pair of wire glasses as in the photo.
