LITTLE RACCOON – Free crochet pattern

Susan’s Family delights us again with a raccoon pattern that can be used not only as a toy but also as a decorative pillow. As always, along with the pattern, you can watch a video to better understand certain passages when crocheting it. The video can be found on the Chinese website bilibili.com

As always, I tried to reproduce the pattern as faithfully as possible, translating and interpreting it in my characteristic way.

I hope you like it as much as the girls in my group who crocheted it did!

MATERIALS

• Cotton or acrylic yarn, gray, white, light blue and brown colors.

• 1 cm diameter black plastic nose (or can be made with black felt)

Join the external ear with inner ear and sew them.

Sew the ears between rows 2 and 10 from the head as in the photo.

EYEBROWS x 2

White color yarn:

• 1. 6sc in MR. FO.

Count 10 rows from the top of the head and sew/glue the eyebrows with a distance of 4 sc between them. See photo.

EYES x 2

The eye has 2 pieces, white and brown.

Piece 1

Brown color yarn:

• 1. 7ch, from the second ch from hook: 5sc, inc3sc, and on the other side: 4sc, 1inc =14
• 2. inc, 5sc, inc, 5sc, 2inc = 18
• 3. 1sc, inc, 4slst, 1sc, (1hdc, 1dc) – in the same st, (1dc, 1hdc) – in the same st, 1sc, 4slst, (1sc, inc)x 2 =23. FO.

Piece 2

White color yarn:

• 1. 12ch, from the second ch from hook: 10sc, inc3sc, and on the other side: 9sc, inc =24
• 2. inc, 9sc, 3inc, 9sc, 2inc = 30
• 3. 11sc, (1hdc, inc-hdc)x 3, 11sc, 2inc-hdc = 35
• 4. 11sc, (inc. 2sc)x 3, 11sc, 1hdc, 2inc-hdc, 1hdc = 40. FO.

Overlap the two pieces and glue/sew them. Then glue the black plastic eye.

Glue/sew the eyes diagonally, on 8 rows and 13 sc, 1 row below the eyebrows, with a minimum distance between the eyes in the vicinity of the muzzle of about 2 sc.

Cut out the cheeks from red felt, 2 ovals of dimensions 5sc x 2.5sc (about 1.5cm x 1cm). Glue them as in the photo.

MUZZLE

White color yarn:

• 1. 7ch, from the second ch from hook: 5sc, inc3sc, and on the other side: 4sc, inc = 14
• 2. inc, 4sc, 3inc, 4sc, 2inc = 20
• 3. 1sc, inc, 4sc, (1sc, inc)x 3, 4sc, (1sc, inc)x 2 = 26
• 4. 26sc
• 5. 1sc, inc, 5sc, (1sc, inc, 1sc)x 3, 4sc, (1sc, inc, 1sc)x 2 = 32
• 6-7. 32sc
• 8. 1sc, dec, 5sc, (1sc, dec, 1sc)x 3, 4sc, (1sc, dec, 1sc)x 2 = 26
• 9. 1sc, dec, 4sc, (1sc, dec)x 3, 4sc, (1sc, dec)x 2 = 20

Leave a tail for close the hole and for shape the nose. Stuff it lightly and sew the muzzle to the head. See the video (minute 1:27:30).

Count 4 rows from the middle of the muzzle, on one side and on the other of it, and sew with a needle, tightening well. Insert the nose into the needle insertion hole or cut out from black felt a triangle of size 1cm x 1cm and glue it.

Cut out the tongue from red felt: a semicircle of dimensions 4sc x 2.5sc (about 1.5cm x 0.5cm)

Sew the muzzle of the face 4 rows bellow the eyebrows, after you glue the tongue.

TAIL

Start with brown color yarn:

• 1. 6sc in MR
• 2. 6inc = 12
• 3. (1sc, inc)x 6 = 18
• 4. (1sc, inc, 1sc)x 6 = 24

Insert a 35 cm long wire and start to stuff!

Sew the head to the body as in the photo (position the head where the chains are:

Sew the arms to the sides, 2 rows under the head.

Shape the toes with brown yarn, inserting the needle 5 rows from the top of the foot and 2 rows into the sole with 3 sc between the toes. See the picture.

Sew the two pocket pieces with white thread as in the photo.
