SQUIRREL Amigurumi – free crochet pattern

Here is a wonderful crochet pattern and in addition free of charge. The creator is 蘇蘇姐家 (Susan’s family).
The written pattern is translated from Chinese, and the videos are from YouTube. I hope you enjoy crocheting this cute pattern too.

MATERIALS:

• Cotton (125 m/50 g) in the colors cream, dark cream, brown and dark brown
• Dark brown unspun wool for felting (optional)
• Wire 1mm thick – 310 cm
• Tapestry needle
• Fiberfill
• Scissors
• Transparent glue
• Safety eyes of 20 mm diameter
• Black plastic nose 15 mm in diameter
• Adhesive tape

Using the mentioned materials, the squirrel will have a height of about 22cm.

PLEASE NOTE: Do not work in a spiral! Each round starts with 1 very tight slip stitch and 1 ch.

ARMS x 2

Brown color yarn:

8ch, 1slst (in the circle)

• 1-3. 8sc (3 rds)
• 4. 2sc, inc, 3sc, inc, 1sc = 10
• 5-6. 10sc (2 rds)
• 7. 2sc, inc, 4sc, inc, 2sc = 12
• 8-14. 12sc (5 rds)

Hands x 2

You need two pieces of wire of 10 cm and two of 20 cm.

With white thread wrap a third of each of the 4 wires with the help of a transparent glue.

Position the fingers as in the photo below and with the thread left from the last wire, wrap all four together 2-3 cm.

Then insert all four unwrapped wires into the arm through the starting circle.  Glue or sew the edge of the sleeve to the hand.

Bend the fingers a little so that they are directed towards the squirrel’s body.

LEGS x 2

Brown color yarn:

8ch, 1slst (in the circle)

• 1. 8sc
• 2. 8inc = 16

Join the legs:

• 6. From the second leg make 3ch and connect the first leg with 1slst, 1ch.

Now pause the crochet to make the feet.

Foot x 2

You need two pieces of wire of 13 cm and two of 25 cm.

With white thread wrap a third of each of the 4 wires with the help of a transparent glue.

Position the toes as in the photo below and with the thread left from the last wire, wrap all four together 2-3 cm.

Then insert all four unwrapped wires into the leg through the starting circle. 

Bend the toes like in the photo below:

Count 6 rows from top to bottom on the cream side and 4-5 sc from the middle to the center. Put a pin – this is where the eyes will be inserted.

First, the place of pin is clogged on 2sc with the help of the needle with cream-colored thread. (video 00:40 / SA1721_2)

Then insert the eyes and glue them.

Count 4 rows from row in brown and insert 2 pins with 3 sc space between them. (video 7:00 / SA1721_2)

With the cream color yarn, the corners of the mouth are slightly clogged.

Count 5 sc to the right and to the left from the center of the mouth and position 2 pins. The third pin is inserted under the brown row, aligned with the center of the mouth. Embroider with brown thread as in the photo below.

Glue the nose in the center of the face, 1 row below the eyes.

EARS x 2

Outer ear

Brown color yarn::

• 1. 4sc – in a double magic ring

Inner ear

Cream color yarn:

Sew or glue the inner ear to the outside ear.

Count 9 rows from the top of the head and sew the ears to the sides, diagonally on 4 rows.

Sew the head to the body!

Cup

To crochet the puff stitch, yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch space, yarn over, pull up a loop, *yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop* 2 times (7 loops on hook), yarn over, and draw through all loops on hook.

Brown color yarn:

• 1. 6sc in a double magic ring.
• 2. 2ch, [(1 puff, 1ch, 1puff 1ch) – in the same stitch]x 6 = 24
• 3. 2ch, [1puff, 1ch, (1 puff, 1ch, 1puff 1ch) – in the same stitch]x 6 = 36
• 4. 2ch, (1puff, 1ch)x 18 = 36
• 5. 36sc. FO.

Peduncle

Brown color yarn: 4ch, from the second ch of hook crochet: 3slst. Leave a tail for sewing to the cup.

Bag strap (about 32cm)

Brown color yarn: 85ch, from the second ch of hook crochet: 84slst.

Sew the cup to the nut, and the strap to the acorn bag!

For the stripes on the back and tail, you can embroider with dark brown thread or you can use the felting method with strips of unspun wool. (video 43:53)
